Featuring over 30 organizations and 40 speakers in the past 3 years, Cease Animal Torture is ready to launch its 4th annual Animal Liberation Forum. Prepare yourself for a weekend of wonderful musicians, radical dialogues exploring the interconnections of oppression and 20 + speakers and 20 + orgs. A new component we are excited for this year is the addition of musical acts. Musicians will be playing throughout the conference and the event is totally and always completely free. This will be an event you DO NOT want to miss!
The event kicks off Friday November 16th at 6pm in Psychology 150 at CSULB. 6-8pm, will be a potluck and mixer for conference attendees. Please bring vegan snacks and food to share! And then prepare yourself for the FIRST CALIFORNIA screening of A.L.F: A Film By Jerome Lescure from 8pm to 10pm. Although the screening is FREE this will be a benefit for Free In The Field and the Hunt Saboteurs so please, if you can spare some extra dollars, they would appreciate it.
QUICK REMINDER: If you are planning on attending the potluck on Friday, PLEASE try to bring either pre-packaged food from Whole Foods or Trader Joes or pizzas from a restaurant or something. We are really trying to avoid anyone from getting sick and we’re sure you all intend well when you cook food for everyone, but let’s keep it safe so no one gets sick and stays home during the event.
Afterwards, the event will be taking place in the Kinesiology building at CSULB, which is located just lower-campus from Friday night’s opening event. Lectures will be taking place in KIN 59 and organizations will be tabling in KIN 58 and 63, just down the hall. Speaking begins 11am and ends at 10pm on Saturday and begins at 12pm and ends at 10pm on Sunday. Tabling begins 11am and ends at 6pm on Saturday and begins at 12pm and ends at 6pm Sunday. Please plan accordingly.

Featured Speaker: Josh Harper - Shac 7 Defendant and Ex-Political Prisoner
“These are dark times that we are living in, but they will only be made darker if we don’t persevere. Billions of animals have no one but us between them and death, and so each one of us has the difficult task of building and participating in a revolutionary movement for animal rights.”
— Josh Harper
The SHAC 7 [were] 6 animal rights activists and the organization Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty USA (SHAC USA) who were convicted on March 2, 2006, under the controversial Federal Animal Enterprise Protection Act. The Act punishes anyone who “physically disrupts” an animal enterprise. The charges [stemmed] from these activists’ alleged participation in an international campaign to close the notorious product testing lab Huntingdon Life Sciences.
Specifically, these activists [were] alleged to have operated a website that reported on and expressed ideological support for protest activity against Huntingdon and its business affiliates. For this they [were] charged with “terrorism” and [faced] an aggregate of 23 years in Federal Prison.

Animal Liberation Forum 2012: Featured Film - Maximum Tolerated Dose
“A look inside modern animal experimentation
with the animals who lived through it
and the people who walked away.”Maximum Tolerated Dose (MTD): An animal / human experiment to find the highest dose of a chemical that, when administered to a group of test subjects in a clinical trial, does not result in a fatality due to short-term toxicity. This dose is then used for longer-term safety studies of the same species, lasting anywhere from two years to a lifetime. The MTD test is controversial, however, in part because of difficulties in extrapolating findings to more realistic doses, and in extrapolating results from animals to humans.
Maximum Tolerated Dose is the first feature-length documentary by Decipher Films. Equal parts found-footage mash-up, verité investigation, and artful meditation, the film charts the lives of both humans and non-humans who have experienced animal testing first-hand, with hauntingly honest testimony of scientists and lab technicians whose ethics demanded they choose a different path, as well as the simultaneously heartwarming and heartbreaking stories of animals who have seen both sides of the cage. MTD aims to re-ignite the debate about animal testing by bringing these rarely-heard perspectives to the fore.

Animal Liberation Forum 2012 featured organization: Food Empowerment Project
The Food Empowerment Project seeks to create a more just and sustainable world by recognizing the power of one’s food choices. We encourage healthy food choices that reflect a more compassionate society by spotlighting the abuse of animals on farms, the depletion of natural resources, unfair working conditions for produce workers, and the unavailability of healthy foods in low-income areas.
By making informed choices, we can prevent injustices against animals, people, and the environment. We also work to discourage negligent corporations from pushing unhealthy foods into low-income areas and empower people to make healthier choices by growing their own fruits and vegetables. In all of our work, the Food Empowerment Project seeks specifically to empower those with the fewest resources.
